What was the Watergate Scandal?

The Watergate Scandal was an event that heavily affected America in the early 70s. It started as a scheme to get  President Nixon re-elected but it quickly spiraled out of control leading to Nixon resigning. It made American's question their presidential candidates and created very harsh views towards politicians. American's easily lost their trust and began to question everything that they did. The Watergate Scandal was a wake-up call for people to ask themselves: Who am I really voting for and why?
